USDA raises crop forecast for corn, soybeans

The USDA shocked the grain markets recently when it raised its estimates for this year’s corn and soybean crops. In its monthly Crop Production report, the USDA raised its forecast for corn yields to 168.8 bushels per acre, projecting a 13.69 billion bushel crop, and jumped soybean yields to 46.9 bushels per acre, resulting in a potential 3.92 billion bushel crop.

Harvest is a farmer’s busiest time of the year and unfortunately one of the most dangerous. Fatigue and stress often lead to shortcuts and unsafe practices during this time, but it is essential to take breaks, slow down, follow safe practices and ensure everyone on the farm is trained to do the task at hand.
